We're going to throw it back for a minute to tell you about something cool we did.
My mom's birthday is always near the Kentucky Derby, so we started to throw her Kentucky Derby themed Birthday Parties a couple years ago.
This year my dad, and my sister's boyfriend were going to be out of town for her birthday/the party so she and I decided to make it extra special.
The year before we had bought cool hats and made mint juleps and that was the extent.

First Annual Kentucky Derby Party 2013 |
It was fun and cute but we stepped our game up to a hella level this year.
Second Annual Kentucky Derby Extravaganza (2014)
It started with the plan to make a cake to end all cakes.
My mom loves frosting so we decided to go all out.
Yeah, that's me and that happened. |
She loved it. |
My mother in law is a bad ass cake decorator so I went over there and she helped teach me to decorate the cake. It was a joint venture and it turned out perfectly.
And I got to learn something new.
Also, if you have never watched a cake decorator make a rose out of frosting you need to google it. It's like fucking magic.
Step two was food.
My sister and I scoured Pinterest for days to come up with the perfect menu.
It was flawless and went off without a hitch!
Lemon Shrimp |
My mom and sister has previously planned to make Creme Brulee. It was amazing. |

All the food turned out AMAZING.
Next it was time to play DRESS UP!
Disclaimer, I'm a large child. I may look 25 but in my heart I'm 7.
We still had our hats from last year but took it a step further this year.
Mint Juleps in Hand we pose for our first (most normal) Picture. |
