Broke Down Cars and Backstreet Boys

I have wanted to see the Backstreet Boys in Concert for over 15 years (Yes really.)
The opportunity came around again and I finally seized it.
We had our tickets all ready, we were leaving early, we made it a couple of miles into the freeway when disaster struck.
The car started slowing down on its own, break checked us, then slowed to coasting. The breaks were not even working. Nicole barely got the cat off the road and when we finally rolled to a complete stop Erin, Jenn, and I got out and pushed it the rest of the way onto the shoulder.
So that happened. It took over an hour, several calls to Nicole's insurance company failed miserably. She had roadside assistance that SUCKS.
They couldn't find us to send a tow truck.
At that point I did what any girl would do and I called my Daddy.
Yeah, I am a 25 year old married woman and I called my dad.
He can always fix it. Even if he is an hour away at work.
I asked him if he knew of a good tow truck service we could call. He used to work and live in the area so I thought he would know. He did of course. But what we didn't think about was how we were going to get back to town.
A tow truck doesn't have room for four girls. Duh.
From there I called my sister. She was heading home at that exact moment. Earlier in the day we had seen The Fault in Our Stars together and she should have still been on the road. I called twice and she never answered. Great.
My dad called back after that to say my Uncle Mike was at the local Meijer and could come pick us up.
LIFESAVER.
My Uncle Mike is an official life save, or saver of days.
He left his girlfriend at Meijer and set out to pick us up.
Nicole was still having no success getting her insurance to figure out where we were.
When my Uncle got there he gave us a more exact description of our location and the phone number to A good local tow company.
Erin and I left with him while Jenn and Nicole stayed with the car.
lucky for us each of our cars were parked at a local park and ride.
My uncle dropped us off there, told us to be careful and went back to get his girlfriend at Meijer.
While we were gone a State Police Officer stopped and offered to help.
He gave Nicole an even better description of the cars location and her idiot insurance STILL could not find them.
That's when she gave up and called the number my uncle gave us.
They were there in 15 minutes tops.
Erin and I headed back to pick them up. The tow guy took her car and her keys and we were free to start our trip again.
We left at the exact right time to pull into the lot pretty much as soon as the concert started at 7pm. By the time we parked, got in, made a stop at the restroom and found out seats, the opening act Avril Lavinge was finishing her last song.
Here she is saying "KBye Detroit"
We weren't upset. None of us cared if we saw her it not. She played a pretty short set so it's a good thing we weren't Avril super fans.
Then it was time to wait. I bought a lemonade because it was hot and I was dying of thirst.
I ended up forgetting my cup at the end!!
Then the show started and I reverted to a screaming 12 year old and it was all a blur.
"All I Have To Give" WAS AWESOME.
You can't see it very well but we all had the flash on our phones lit up. It looked sweet.

They played an acoustic set, all of them played an instrument. I forgot just how talented they really were.
During on of their new songs AJ ran up and down the aisles of the venue. Of course we were in the center of the row so we didn't get a good look at him.
The last picture I took was of I Want It That Way. It was amazing.
I actually was screaming.
Not wooing.
SCREAMING.
It just happened. I've never lost it like that before but I've been waiting 15 years for this concert. It was worth it. They still put on a great show!

It is never too late to go back and do that thing you've always wanted to do.

  2. Well, what do you know? It's nice that you've managed to get to that concert and have yourself a ball of a time, despite the burden of a car breakdown. That should ought to be fixed and amped up soon to belatedly make that day a more enduring kind of memory. All the best!
