I love Ancestry, and old things and family history and all that.
I've become a member of findagrave.com through ancestry.com because it has helped connect me to relatives I didn't know I had.
I have several Civil War vets in my family and thanks to this website I was able to see the grave of my Great-great-great... great? Grandpa who is buried at a military cemetery in Texas!
I also got to see the grave of my mysterious Great great great great Grandma Silence.
Yes her name is Silence.
She is a mystery and I am obsessed with her.
Anyway, her grave is in Ionia and I was able to see that too.
So recently I've become a photo volunteer. If anyone needs a photo of a grave they can make a request and if it is around me they send me an email to see if I can go take a picture of it.
Recently I went on a hunt through our local cemetery for the 8 or so requests there.
I found zero, they must not have stones OR they are buried beneath the unreadable ones.
It was a little bit of a let down.
But I did take photographs of some of the more recent stones in there and post them.
Nobody had photographed them yet.
Is this a little morbid? Maybe.
Do I enjoy it?
Yes, because I know I'm helping people like myself who just want to connect with that family history.
